FRAME

Man have tried to accommodate time to patterns of numbers upon it. Dividing the millenniums in centuries, centuries in years, years in seasons, seasons in months, months in days, days in hours, hours in minutes, minutes in seconds, seconds in milliseconds, milliseconds in microseconds, microseconds in […] Time gives us an artificial security to understand our place, our location or referential position. Time is a human fabricated order... And its notion and measure systems have changed through cultures and history.

Play is a voluntary activity or occupation executed within certain fixed limits of time and place, according to rules freely accepted but absolutely binding, having its aim in itself and accompanied by a feeling of tension, joy, and the consciousness that it is different from ordinary life.

The term asobi, 遊び, circumscribes the concept of play in a particularly broad way by referring to the activities a person does in his or her leisure time, as well as to leisure time itself. From a linguistic point of view, then, contemporary social life in Japan is organized between working and life-preserving activities (shigoto, yoji) and play or leisure time (asobi).

Yet this frame is invisible: the Japanese thing is not outlined, illuminated; it is not formed of a strong contour […] there is: nothing, an empty space which renders it matte.

Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness. It should be fun, it should be exuberant and filled with ideas that allow people to play.

Nothing stays still, everything changes. Time is a human construction that establishes a frame of our existence in connection with the others.

A building has its own identity and is, in a way, timeless. It is not just a momentary creation but something that will evolve over time.

The number of hours we have together is actually not so large. Please linger near the door uncomfortably instead of just leaving. Please forget your scarf in my life and come back later for it.
