The city of UNITA is governed by a totalitarian regime attempting to erase the past through the destruction of cultural heritage in order to create an independent society. In consequence history is neither created nor remembered nor told. Within the city, the historical remains become illegal relicts of memory. Having recognized their value, citizens try to protect the remaining monuments by integrating them into their private spaces.

What else than a natural and mighty palimpsest is the human brain? Such a palimpsest is my brain; such a palimpsest, O reader! is yours. Everlasting layers of ideas, images, feelings, have fallen upon your brain softly as light. Each succession has seemed to bury all that went before. And yet in reality not one has been extinguished.

The architect is an expert collector, one who skillfully and meaningfully
disassembles and reassembles architectural elements from an existing palimpsest,
in such a way that old and new story might merge.
