The verticality in Tokyo brings a new dimension to urban life. It is an invitation to experience the city from a different perspective and explore the connections between the levels.

Metropolisarchitecture is considerably dependent on solving two factors: the individual cell of the room and the collective urban organism.

The stairs visualize a potential of the streets in Tokyo, which are able to drastically increase the vertical reach of the streetspace, but unable to connect a new network of ways through the three-dimensional city. What if there would be visible sytem of uninterupted verticality? A permenant system of paths is desireable.

Traversing a city can produce a collection of cross sections distinctive of that city...The cross section of urban space resulting from such traversal instantaneously reveals a crystallization of the distinctive culture and history of the nation in which the city is located.

Space has always been the spiritual dimension of architecture. It is not the physical statement of the structure so much as what it contains that moves us.
