A society that aims to minimize discrepancies between different social classes and to distribute wealth and power uniformly across these different classes. Egalitarian societies emphasize the importance of an equitable distribution of resources, as well as equality of rights and benefits among different social groups (according to gender, ethnicity, age, socioeconomic status, etc.). In egalitarian societies, all individuals are born equal, and all members of society are said to have a right to equal opportunities. These types of societies are often referred to as classless societies.
