Istanbul has always had great importance in bringing together European and Middle Eastern cultures. The city is very diverse in terms of religion, ethnicity and language, but also cultures and traditions, the city has formed and continues to develop a very rich acoustic environment. Today’s daily life in Istanbul is very dynamic and chaotic due to its large population of officially 13.8 million, but unofficially as high as 20 million. Istanbul continues to host people of many different ethnic roots, languages and religions. This diversity has always been important for shaping the city’s many lifestyles.
